A typical MEGA project follows the structured process below, which can be customised to suit specific projects

  • During this phase, we invest time in getting to know you well. For private residences, we understand the personal nature of the project and aim to make it as unique as your fingerprint. We discuss your experiences with past homes and your story, ensuring a personalised touch. As a boutique practice, we limit the number of active projects, allowing us to be responsive and provide the best service. This initial stage is crucial for establishing compatibility between us and you, ensuring a positive collaboration. We delve into key aspects, including:

  • Once we grasp the project parameters and your expectations, we start putting ideas on paper. Regular communication ensures the project aligns with your vision. We conduct a site survey to gather essential information on land contours, vegetation, and existing structures. Unlike many architecture firms, MEGA works at a higher level of detail during this stage, providing 3D sketches, elevations, and floorplans for informed decision-making.

  • Building upon an approved sketch design, we add layers of detail to refine the design and materiality. This stage allows you to make decisions on minor details, enhancing the finish and refinement of the final product. The synergy between landscape, interior, and exterior is carefully crafted, resulting in a highly detailed, refined finished product.

  • We prepare a set of drawings aligning with local council planning schemes, leveraging our in-depth knowledge to push boundaries and achieve the best results. Depending on the project, various reports may be required, such as town planning reports, bushfire assessments, and ESD reports. Our relationships with top consultants facilitate the procurement of these reports when necessary.

  • This stage involves preparing drawings to address the requirements of the Building Code of Australia and the National Construction Code. Interior design works are completed, including documentation of joinery and selection of finishes. We work closely with required consultants such as soil testers, engineers, and energy report specialists.

  • The approach at this stage depends on the type of contract used. Whether opting for a fixed-price lump sum contract or involving a preferred builder, we provide a list of builders suitable for the project. Our strong relationships with builders ensure successful collaboration and high-quality results.

  • During construction, we ensure all works align with the contract documents. The level of involvement varies based on the builder and the relationship. Utilising a reputable builder recommended by us often results in minimal intervention, saving time and money.

Project Budgeting: Understanding the importance of budget adherence, we design efficiently and recommend quantity surveyor reports to be completed after sketch design and then updated at the end of each stage. Early discussions about the realistic nature of your budget ensure informed decisions throughout the process, preventing costly amendments down the line.
